Soror Spotlight
Every month we feature one of our sisters in our Soror spotlight
This month's Spotlight Soror is
Soror Shatoya "Q - Ray - Tive" Bland
Soror Bland is currently a resident of Kansas City, MO where she is the cornerstone of the Sensational Psi Colony . Currently she serves as the 2nd Supreme Anti - Basileus of Phi Nu Kappa Sorority, Inc. Soror Bland crossed into the lavender glow in the PHantastic Fall of 2005. She's the loving mother of two.
Q: When did you first hear about PNK?
A: I was just playing around online and saw an interesting post by Soror Sky Blue. When I went to her page she spoke of this amazing sisterhood she was a part of and the passion she held for it showed through her words. I had never heard of anything like it and wanted to know more. I sent her a message and she responded immediately with all the information I needed to start my journey.
Q: Had you looked into any other organizations?
A: During my time of waiting to begin the process I looked into other organization because I wanted to make sure Phi Nu Kappa was for me. I joined a few other interest groups but nothing felt like PNK. I did not have the connection with the others. Since day one I've had love for the ladies in lavender.
Q: What made you pick PNK?
A: The things that PNK stood for in relation to servicing the community, accepting the person and not the social or academic status. Everyone inside the organization made me fill welcomed and answered any question I had. There were phone calls just to say hello, IM's to find out more about me on a personal level, they promoted Sisterhood and it was definitely shown to me.
Q: What is your fondest PNK memory?
A: In the 5 years I have been apart of PNK so many memorable moments have happened but I think the one that still give me chills is the moment I was officially inducted into PNK. I know it seems cliche' but honestly if not for that moment I would not be the woman I am today inside or outside of the organization. Being around such strong minded women has allowed me to be stronger in who I am and lead others their own strengths.
Q: What advice would you give ladies considering PNK?
A: I would advise them to do their research and be sure that everything they are looking for is in PNK. Everything is not for everyone and if nothing else PNK is full of members who are determined to see this organization succeed for years to come. They should be sure that helping the community is a priority and most importantly know their own strengths and weaknesses it will allow a woman to get the most out of the organization and vice verse.
